You are not going to want to enroll into a Medicare prescription drug plan. Your medications are covered through Tricare for life and champVA And if you sign up for a Medicare prescription drug plan what's going to happen is it's going to mess with how the benefits of your current Tri-Care for life and champ VA drug coverage work. Enrolling in Medicare Part A and Part B

So in order for your Tri-Care benefits to actually become Tri-Care for life When you're of Medicare age at 65 , you need to first enroll into Medicare a and B. So if you're receiving social security, This is automatically going to happen to you You'll get a Medicare card three months before. your 65th. birth month. If you're not receiving social security, then you're going to need to actually sign up for part B of Medicare. And that process will happen three months before your 65th birth month. So there's a link in the description below that I walked through how to actually sign up for part B of Medicare. But again if you're receiving social security this is automatically done for you. If you are not receiving social security you're going to have to manually sign up for the part B of Medicare. So that way. your Tri-Care will turn to TRICARE for life.

When TRICARE Becomes TRICARE for Life

Now this will happen on the first day of your 65th birth month So if you turn 65, June 5th. You're TRICARE, we'll change the Tri-Care for life And your Medicare will actually start on June 1st.

Medicare Premiums and Payment Details

Now when that happens when you start Medicare a and B. Medicare a is free but the part B premium that you're going to have to sign up for part B you have to take at 65 to get Tri-Care to move to Tri-Care for life. that has a premium of $164.90 a month. So that's going to be your monthly premium when you're actually 65 and getting onto Medicare with Medicare a and B. Now if you're receiving social security. That $164.90 is just going to come out of your social security check automatically before you get your distribution. If you are not receiving social security, that $164.90 is going to be billed to you on a quarterly basis. So you'll be paying for that three months at a time.
